She is hilarious. She is talented. She is random. She is music in it’s truest form.

I see a similarity in that they both have very unique voices. Their tones and such are not the “norm” or what Simon or Randy or Paula would call “it factor” but something very special that the “masses” would not necessarily understand.

Their music is mature beyond their years in a certain sense. Take out their personal bullshit, because we know Fiona likes her weed, but musically, Fiona was/is cutting edge to me.

Totally dig both of them.

If you like it — listen to Apres Moi. It’s fantastic, and not as many of those vocal quirks that irk you.

I kind of agree with Mary as well- some of the showy little vocal jumps really detracted from the song for me. I felt like she would have done better to stick with the simplicity of the song and just let her voice speak for itself (ha). But like I said above, I liked what I heard and I’m definitely willing to hear more. :)

This song is very beautiful – my personal tastes are more on the slower and darker side, so this song feels very upbeat to me… pleasant, even.

I Jason, I’m glad you sent me the other song, Après Moi, as a compliment to this one, and it’s right up my alley. I do like this song (Us), but I am a little turned off by the jerky kinda goofing off she does with her voice at certain times in this tune. It’s a turn off in the same way that Shakira is to me too…

I used to love Fiona’s music. Used to. For me, she took a Sinead O’Connor-esque nosedive in the court of public opinion when she gave the “this world is bullshit” speech on MTV. That speech opened the doors for other musicians who felt they had a right to make public their political stances. I didn’t think an awards show was the proper forum for that. …. not that I give a crap about MTV anymore. Maybe that’s when MTV “jumped the shark”.

While I can hear why you would make the comparison, I don’t think it’s entirely fair one. Certainly the instrumentation is similar, and they’re both female vocalists of a certain level of talent. But I found the mood of this song to be entirely different from most Apple songs. I’d have to find more of the album before I could say for sure, but my initial impression is that to compare the two would do neither of them justice.

That said, I liked the song. :)
